Characters who reappeared after disappearing for a long time:
Starting off we have Ronald McDonald. He initially disappeared mostly due to the Creepy Clown craze but 2025 brought us the return to form with not just Ronald but a full-on franchise cast reunion in McDonaldLand.
Up next is Apu from the Simpsons. We haven’t seen him since the ‘Problem with Apu’ documentary in 2017 after voice actor Hank Azaria stepped away from the show, apart from a few non-speaking appearances. He technically reappeared after The Simpsons official social media account shared cryptic tweet featuring Apu.
Next up is Bubble Buddy from SpongeBob. After his debut, self titled episode back in season 2, he then completely vanished from the show for 11 years until season 8’s Bubble Buddy Returns, where it is revealed that he moved away, got married.
Pauline from the Mario series was absent for over 2 decades after the release of Donkey Kong in 1981 not counting ports or remakes. Though she would make a comeback in ‘Mario vs Donkey Kong 2: March of the Minis’ and even become a mainstay from 2017 onward with Mario Odyssey.
And finally, Puss in Boots didn’t significantly appear in official material for 12 years after Shrek Forever After in 2010. But not only did he make a comeback in 2022, he even got his own spin off movie.
