Your correspondent has been watching David Kramer’s work since making a first acquaintance with it during the heydays of the Williamsburg art scene. Since that period, Kramer has evolved from a performance/installation artist, to Neo-Pop painter, to hook rug weaver. Despite all these changes, the artist has maintained a sense of humor and attention to America’s ideology of kitsch situated somewhere between cynicism, incredulity, and skepticism. Perhaps, with the overwhelming problems facing humanity today, a shrug of the shoulder, and a laugh are the only reasonable response.
