James Kalm brushes aside a tear, and stops in for a nostalgic and heart touching stroll through of Joyce Pensato’s “Fuggetabout It (Redux)”. This installation is a restaging of a 2012 exhibition that presented the residue and ephemera that had collected and accumulated in the thirty years Joyce had worked at her Williamsburg studio. Brooklyn born, Pensato was destined to be a late bloomer. After stints at both the Art Students League, and the New York Studio School, the artist was fortunate enough to have been mentored by painting icon Joan Mitchell. Melding a variety of classic New York Action Painting (full arm sweeping strokes, and splashy paint handling), with Post Pop cartoon imagery, employing an elegantly simplified pallet of black and white enamel, Pensato mined a vain of contemporary culture from a unique perspective. Along with this collection of paint encrusted studio clutter, the “Eye Ball” paintings are debuted together for the first time. A musical introduction is presented by KAS @_jkas_ .
