If you want to practice your trigger pull, go shoot the gun. When the gun's piston is cocked, a lever on left side slows the hammer down as it comes up from the sear. 5,000 shots later that metal post in back, that is part of my sear assembly, still in place. I lost 2 340s with post breakage. Dry firing hammer puts metal fatigue on post.
Dry firing the piston - meaning firing the gun with no ammo in breech - causes damage to piston tube cap. I thought it was piston head damage, but further investigation and feed back from shooters shows piston tube breakage is #1 early 340 death. Use only NEW Daisy BBs.

I noticed Wal-Mart is not carrying 340 at this time. It had it priced right at $10. The average price now is $20 on Amazon. I would buy a 340 for $20, but I know how to take care of it. Spend that twenty bucks only if you are willing to be careful.
The power testing range is 3 yards. I normally target shoot, and only standing, at 5 or 6 yards. 340 like carnival event, and If I can knock down 2 cans in 3 shots, I'm excited. At 5 yards, if I can knock down 4 cans in five or six shots, I'm still very happy.
On lubing, my accuracy has greatly Improved lubing right bottom side of cocked hammer with FP-10. I have created a workable 2-stage trigger because of the elite oil's slickness. I pick up slack and micro 1st stage gives slightly into predictable final release.
When new, one drop on the hammer's inside right side after every mag used (200 shots) will help fast. I now mostly lube after 400 shots with 2 drops of FP-10. This lube is ENGINEERED for these sear parts. 30 SAE oil will work. Standard motor oil can leave a build up FP-10 does not.
On piston tube, I now say to leave it alone until you see a power drop. That could be a thousand shots or more. Use only RWS Silicone or Super Lube O-Ring Silicone. 1 or 2 drops. Any silicone is not safe for your gun. It needs to be a certain viscosity for seals. Superlube has other silicone that isn't the pick here Their O-Ring Silicone is rated 5,000.
