Country music artist Crystal Gayle took this song to #8 on the Country Music chart in 1980, and to #16 on the Adult Contemporary chart. "The Blue Side" also crossed over to the Pop chart, peaking at #81 on Billboard's Hot 100 chart. I really liked this song when it came out, as the piano style echoed her 1977 hit, "Don't It Make My Brown Eyes Blue" and I was disappointed by its chart placing, making it another of those singles that I thought deserved to be a bigger hit.
