In my crochet tutorial today I’ll be showing you how to make this crochet hot air balloon applique.

If you would like to view the crochet pattern for free, it’s on my website at kerriscrochet.com/crochet-hot-air-balloon-pattern or you can download it from Ravelry at ravelry.com/patterns/library/hot-air-balloon-28 for $1 at and LoveCrafts at __

You can also subscribe to Kerri’s Crochet Newsletter and get a free copy of the Crochet Cat Towel eBook at kerriscrochet.com/crochet-pattern-ebook-and-newsletter

For this pattern you will need any thickness crochet cotton or yarn, I used Scheepjes Catona cotton colours (515) Emerald, (208) Yellow Gold, (189) Royal Orange, (115) Hot Red, (146) Vivid Blue, (201) Electric Blue, (521) Deep Violet, (113) Delphinium, (106) Snow White and (254) Moon Rock. A crochet hook, I used a 2.5mm hook. A darning needle to weave in ends and a pair of scissors. Black thread and needle to embroider on markings and attach basket to balloon.

The finished size will be 13cm wide x 20.5cm high (5” wide x 8” high) for the larger hot air balloon, using 8 ply crochet cotton. The size of the hot air balloon in Catona will be 10.5cm wide x 16cm high (4” wide x 6.25” high). The medium hot air balloon will be 9cm wide x 13cm high (3.5” wide x 5” high) when using 4 ply crochet cotton. The small hot air balloon will be 7cm wide x 10.5cm high (2.75” wide x 4” high) when using 2 ply crochet cotton.
