How to crochet a simple and sturdy hanging basket? This crochet basket is great for some simple DIY storage, to hang wine bottles, or to give as a gift. What makes this pattern so sturdy is that we use a steel can and crochet around it to create a simple basket that won't stretch when weight is added.

Crochet Hanging Basket Using Can
Materials:
• Crochet Hooks: G/6/4.25MM & I/9/5.25MM
• Yarn: Size 4 Medium, Lion Brand Yarns Re-Up 100% Recycled Cotton & Polyester Blend, Colors: Full Moon & Mineral Springs
• 46 oz Cleaned Steel Can (7 inches tall, 4.25 inches in diameter).
• 2x Crochet Handles (6.5 inches long) - Tutorial Here: youtu.be/48tvBDp9Ogc
Scrap Strand of Yarn or Stitch Marker
*Note: I am working with a yarn that is on the smaller side of Size 4. If you are working with a different brand of yarn, you might want to work with a slightly larger crochet hook (H/5.00MM), or add one additional row of increasing (Row 9: *1 SC in st 1 - 7, 2 SC in st 8.* Repeat * around the row (54 total SC st). You will need to increase this row at the end of the pattern, like this: (Row 56: *1 SC in st 1 - 7, SC 2together in st 8 & 9.* Repeat * around the row (48 total SC st). For both of these rows, continue the pattern where it leaves off after completing the rows.
Attach Color B yarn to crochet hook and create a long chain rope. Pull your crochet hook out of the loop so you can reinsert it any time you need to create more CH st.
Row 1: Insert crochet hook in 1st CH st from the chain rope. Tie a
MC, and when you draw through the loop, draw through this CH st as well. CH 1, then place 6 SC inside the MC while working over the CH rope.
Row 2: while working over the chain rope (we will work over the CH rope for the rest of the pattern). Starting with the 1st SC st from Row 1, place 2 SC in each st in the row - this should create a continuous loop pattern, meaning we won’t be starting and stopping our individual rows, but instead the pattern should act like a spiral. Make sure to mark the first st of each row so you can tell where each new row begins (12 total SC st).
Row 3: *1 SC in st 1, 2 SC in st 2.* Repeat * around the row (18 total SC st).
Row 4: *1 SC in st 1 - 2, 2 SC in st 3.* Repeat * around the row (24 total SC st).
Row 5: *1 SC in st 1 - 3, 2 SC in st 4.* Repeat * around the row (30 total SC st).
Row 6: *1 SC in st 1 - 4, 2 SC in st 5.* Repeat * around the row (36 total SC st).
Row 7: *1 SC in st 1 - 5, 2 SC in st 6.* Repeat * around the row (42 total SC st).
Row 8: *1 SC in st 1 - 6, 2 SC in st 7.* Repeat * around the row (48 total SC st).
Row 9: Place 1 SC in each st in the row.
Rows 10 - 55: Repeat Row 9.
