A rock/metal cover of 'Courtroom Lobby' (aka Defendant Lobby - So it Begins) from the video game Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney.
The Phoenix Wright trilogy are incredible games and the music is so good! This theme in particular is very iconic yet so underrated so I took it upon myself to give it the love it deserves! It definitely nails the tense feeling right before the trials in the games!
The original theme is very short and repetitive, only 4 phrases in total. This definitely made it a fun challenge to tackle, and come up with some variations for this one. I definitely wanted to add a 'chorus' and develop the melody thing a bit more, and I knew I wanted to start and end the piece in a similar style as the original. Another thing is I've been thinking about how I've not used my 8 string in a cover for a while, and then realised this song was perfect for it! Doubling up the bass line with some 8 string definitely gives the track a really nice proggy and djenty vibe, without resorting to chugs. I then of course had to bring out my inner Dream Theater once again with a technical riff with some time signature thing going on! And only after recording it I've realised, that I think the drums and guitars are playing in different time signatures maybe? I'm not really sure!
I hope you enjoy this one, because I've been wanting to cover it for a while now and glad to have finally gotten around to it!
