Today we continue our WWII vs 2020s battle series in DCS World with a massive hypothetical air battle:
Could 240 USAAF WWII bombers overwhelm and defeat a modern Chinese PLAN carrier strike group?
The Liaoning aircraft carrier leads the 2020s-era carrier strike group, defended by 24 PL-15-equipped J-15B fighters as the first line of defense. Behind the fighters is a formidable layered air-defense network:
• 224 × HHQ-9B long-range surface-to-air missiles
• 4 × Type 055 and Type 052D destroyers
• 96 × HQ-10 short-range missiles
• The carrier's own defensive systems
Facing this modern Chinese naval air-defense network is a huge formation of 240 USAAF WWII bombers. The question is whether the carrier strike group's modern weapons can use anti-swarm tactics effectively enough to stop such a large bomber formation before it reaches the fleet.
Using DCS World to simulate the engagement, we'll test the capabilities of WWII-era bombers against modern J-15B fighters, PL-15 missiles, HHQ-9B SAMs, HQ-10 defenses, and Chinese PLAN warships.
Can modern air defenses defeat a massive WWII bomber swarm, or will the sheer number of attacking aircraft overwhelm the carrier strike group's defenses?
