Germany has announced plans to equip its F125 frigates with 32-cell Vertical Launch Systems (VLS) armed with navalised IRIS-T SLM surface-to-air missiles, significantly enhancing the ships' air defence capabilities. But how much of a difference will these new missiles actually make in combat?
