Today we put the Royal Australian Navy's Cold War anti-submarine warfare (ASW) frigates to the test in Sea Power. The Perth-class and Adelaide-class FFGs face off against one of the Soviet Union's most capable nuclear attack submarines—the Victor II-class SSN.
The Victor II was the first Soviet nuclear submarine to feature acoustically isolated machinery, dramatically reducing noise and making it far more difficult to detect. Can the Australian frigates locate this stealthy hunter using their sonar, then destroy it with the Ikara anti-submarine missile system and Mk 46 torpedoes? Or will the Victor II send both warships to the bottom?
