Can a modern Royal Navy task force defeat the massed strength of the Cold War fleet? In this Sea Power naval warfare simulation, we pit the 2026 Royal Navy against its 1982 equivalent in an epic destroyer and frigate battle.
Thirteen modern Type 45 destroyers and Type 23 frigates face overwhelming numbers from the Cold War era: fifty three County-class and Type 42 destroyers alongside Type 22, Type 21, Leander, and Rothesay frigates.
The 2026 fleet attacks with sixty four Naval Strike Missiles (NSM) and defends using advanced Aster and CAMM air defence systems. Meanwhile, the 1982 Royal Navy counters with MM38 Exocet anti-ship missiles backed by Sea Dart, Sea Wolf, Sea Cat, and Sea Slug missile systems.
