Restoring a Corgi Juniors 69-A Batmobile, in the range from 1976 until 1983.
After the introduction of the Corgi 267 Batmobile to critical acclaim in 1966, owners Mettoy decided to capitalise on its popularity by introducing an almost identical, if slightly less functional model for their smaller scale Husky range. While it may not have been as popular as it's bigger brother, it still sold very well indeed.
The model continued to be sold through Husky's name change to Corgi Juniors in 1970 and up until 1972. By this time, the dies were looking a little worse for wear with the model having been reproduced millions of times over. In 1976, Mettoy were looking to reintroduce the popular mode but in a more economical manner. That is where this model comes in. The model is a stripped down version of its predecessor, most identifiable by its plastic instead of cast base. These would be produced up until the company's bankruptcy in 1983.
My model was sent to me by Trevor Johnsen and had somehow had all of its paint removed without being disassembled. They had even chipped the paint away around the Bat symbol on the rear deck. The canopy also needed replacing as it had broken in the middle.
