Customising a Majorette No. 270 Autobianchi A112, in the Serie 200 range from 1984 until 1987.
There aren't many diecast Autobianchis about! This Italian marque was a joint project between bicycle and motorcycle manufacturer Bianchi, tyre company Pirelli and Fiat. Bianchi had been a pre-World War II automobile builder until their factory was destroyed by bombing. In order to restart production, Bianchi needed the clout of established firms. The first cars rolled of the production line in 1955, specialising in niche high end small cars.
The A112 arrived in 1969 and was one of several cars to prompt Fiat away from their rear-engine rear wheel drive layouts, shifting drive and engine location to the front. It would form the basis of the Fiat 127. It went through eight generations between 1969 and 1986, each relatively showing minor differences to the last. Bianchi would sell their stake in the firm to Fiat as the car was introduced. Following this, Fiat started selling it as the Lancia A112 in some, later nearly all export markets.
Majorette introduced the model late on in the car's life. It recreates a sixth generation 1982-1984 model. It joined Majorette's Serie 200 in 1984 and lasted just three years, ending production one year after the real A112 had been discontinued.
My model was rusty, had damage to its large plastic piece which houses the interior and black exterior perimeter, scratched windows, and thinned paint. The model had Abarth decals across the bonnet, so I chose to give it some accurate Abarth 4 spokes and give it a fiery red paint job to help revitalise it.
