Miniseries Monday: Harold Robbins' 'Dream Merchants' tells the story of Johnny Edge, who rose from poverty to create a powerful movie studio in 1920s Hollywood...but then the talkies came along. The lead player in the miniseries made his acting debut seven years earlier. When an actor on an episode of 'Ozzie's Girls' dropped out, Mark Harmon, with no training or experience, stepped into the role and was bitten permanently by the acting bug. But back to 'Dream Merchants': a cast of tv favorites was on hand to fill out the many roles; the grandiose, old-style-Hollywood theme comes courtesy of George Duning ('The Big Valley').
