A Japanese anime series ('Spaceship Yamato') was heavily edited to tone down the more 'adult' incidents and storyline, then released in the West as 'Star Blazers' (to cash in on the success of 'Star Wars'). Hostile aliens have attacked Earth, and just when it appears humanity faces extinction, friendly aliens provide a much-needed infusion of advanced technology. For many Westerners this was their first taste of anime and, even in its watered down state, it was impressive. The English-language voice artists were not identified (because they were non-union), but we do know that English lyrics for the theme song by Hiroshi Mayagawa were composed by Ginny Redington.
