“Brethren Voices” takes a look at two Brethren related programs that give individuals a chance to advocate for social justice, work for peace, serve human needs and care for the creation in a variety of settings in the United States and other countries. Featuring: Springfield Churh of the Brethren's "Fair Trade On Main". Hosted by Brent Carlson, Debbie Kossman and Anna Zakelj.
Heifer International and the New Community Project’s “Give A Girl A Chance” are presented as alternatives to the gift giving frenzy that happens at Christmas time.
Springfield Church of the Brethren’s SERRV shop, “Fair Trade On Main” is visited, providing gift-giving ideas featuring the products of artisans and farmers world wide. SERRV is recognized as a leader and pioneer in the fair trade movement, and had its origins, in 1949, with Church of the Brethren relief workers who were assisting refugees to rebuild following war in Europe.
“Brethren Voices” also visits the Southern Pennsylvania District to take a look at the Brethren outreach program,
“Cookies For Truckers” as supported by residents of Cross Keys Village – The Brethren Home Community as well as Brethren congregations around Carlisle, PA.
