MIKE STERN IN CONCERT:

Michael Stern is a composer, folksinger and inspirational speaker who retired from a career in nursing and continues to provide creative leadership for professional conferences, retreats, worship services and children’s programs. He is a regular at the Church of the Brethren Song and Story Fest, which will be held in July 2023 for the 27th year. Michael’s songs draw inspiration from diverse, literary, historical, spiritual, and personal influences. They range from thought-provoking, to humorous, and from romantic, to spiritual.
Mike’s song, “The Golden Rule” is featured and shares, The Golden Rule Project of Veterans For Peace, to advance Veterans For Peace and opposition to nuclear weapons and war.
The original peace boat, the Golden Rule, set sail in 1958 to stop nuclear weapons tests in the Marshall Islands. The original boat was recovered and restored and is currently on tour, on a “Great Loop” route, from Kings Bay, Georgia, around Florida and up the Eastern US Coast, through the Great Lakes and down the Mississippi River, with many, many stops along the way. The reborn, Golden Rule, is sailing once more, to show that nuclear abolition is possible, and that bravery and tenacity can overcome militarism.
Mike is known for involving other musicians in his concerts. Barbara West, Kathy Howell and Amy Warner shared the song, “Gentle Soldier of My Soul.” The song was written by Dave Carter and Tracy Grammer, who gave us special permission to share it, for this “Brethren Voices” program, hosted by Billy Harness.
