Belgian band Chas Remue and his New Stompers Orchestra play "Pamplona", a "Stomp" composed by fellow Belgians Peter Packay and David Bee, with hot solos by Alphonse Cox on cornet, Charles Remue on clarinet and Stan Brenders on piano. In keeping with the title, Spanish rhythmic themes are evident here and there.
This was one of several superb 'hot' recordings that the band made during their visit to the London recording studios of Edison Bell in late June 1927, released on Edison Bell's "Electron" label, which was launched by the company to emphasise the fact that it has switched over to electrical recordings. However, Edison Bell Electron records were an expensive, premier offering and did not sell well. Titles such as "Pamplona" were especially poor sellers, and consequently this - and indeed all of Chas Remue's Electron recordings - sold poorly and are very rare today.
