Peter Helland combines his study of the Greek New Testament word "Eutrapelia" translated jesting in the King James Bible with his recent trip to Washington D.C. for the annual Right to Life march. All the Church fathers agreed with St. Paul that Eutrapelia was a vice. But with Aristotle sweeping Europe in popularity Thomas Aquinas decided to agree with Aristotle and call Eutrapelia a virtue. This opened the way to western culture becoming drunk on entertainment. To jest is related to having fun, to sport, and to entertain oneself. For Americans life is primarily about having fun and pursuing happiness and pleasure. This quite often conflicts with the scriptural command for the Christian to be always sober and grave. The Christian is to walk in the fear of God because very shortly he will face Jesus Christ in judgement after he dies and as Jesus says in Matthew 12:36: "That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment."
Peter observed the students at the Right to Life March and noticed their character and behavior and could not believe the media reports that the Covington "Maga" boys behaved very badly. However when confronted with evil (as they were) they should not have resorted to jesting by doing their sport cheers. Instead more convenient would have been prayer and thanksgiving to God.
