Carbon fiber coating removal is demonstrated in the video. The carbon fiber polymer coating is often epoxy-based and referred to as seizing. It is used to protect the carbon fibers from damage and improve the carbon fibers' compatibility with the polymer matrix, wherein they are intended to be used as reinforcing fibers. Removing the polymer coating is very difficult because the epoxy polymer is a thermosetting polymer that does not easily dissolve in any solvent, making high-temperature coating degradation an alternative way to obtain the cleaned and pure carbon phase fibers. In the video, ca 120-180 volts are applied over the fiber length to reach the point where the temperature is enough to make the carbon fibers glow with a color that indicates a temperature of 100-1200 ° Celcius. The uncoated fibers are going to be used as electrodes in the making of hydrogen gas.
