Ireland has taken over the presidency of the Council of the European Union for the next six months at a challenging time for the bloc.
Although Ireland is traditionally a neutral country, European defence and security have become increasingly important amid the war in Ukraine.
The key question is whether Ireland can maintain that neutrality while leading the Council. Irish broadcaster and journalist Joe O’Shea told Roundtable that the government must "play a very, very careful game" to balance its duties with public opinion at home.
