Second-hand booksellers across Europe have seen a sudden surge in sales as AI firms buy books in bulk, scan them to train AI models before slicing them apart.
In recently released court documents, it emerged Anthropic, creator of AI assistant Claude, is one of the firms destroying books.
AI companies are using the high-quality, factual texts to improve its data and avoid copyright infringement.
It could mean some physical secondhand books may be lost forever. So, can this AI data grab be stopped?
