Alan gets a lesson in fMRI lie detection from Dr. Steve Laken. Until recently, Laken had been scanning defendants suspected of a crime giving them a test similar to the one Alan took here. While there is much peer-reviewed literature on the validity of fMRI lie detection practices, it is not yet been allowed in court.

This segment was taken from episode one, "Determining Guilt," from the broadcast, "Brains on Trial with Alan Alda."
