While filming for the PBS special, "Brains on Trial with Alan Alda," Alan visited Dr. Anthony Wagner, Professor of Psychology and Neuroscience at Stanford University. His lab uses neuroimaging to understand how the brain builds and retrieves memories and to examine the processes that enable goal-directed behavior.

Alan tells Dr. Wagner about his experience telling a lie in the fMRI, a previously filmed segment in our broadcast with Dr. Steven Laken. Here, Dr. Wagner explains why he thinks Alan's memory may have affected the outcome of his brain scan.
