A rock/metal cover of 'Calling' from the video game The World Ends With You.
I was turned onto this game a couple of years ago, but only recently completed it, and I think it's definitely one of the most criminally underrated games I've played in a long time.
A unique battle system, quirky characters and a very interesting plot that keeps you asking questions - more people need to play this game!
The game itself is full of musical references (with most of the enemies referencing various sub genres of music), so as you would expect, it also has an amazing OST! This song is one of the first you hear in the game, and straight away it hooks you with a simple riff and a melody so catchy, it will be stuck in your head for days!
The original is a relatively simple one, so there was lots of different directions I could have taken this cover, but I decided to keep it fairly simple, and keep the focus on the melody. The guitars and bass are still riffing (with some fun tapping!) but it's not as heavily layered as my usual covers so there's more space for each instrument to breathe.
Vocally - of course I had to pick a song with a female singer that was well out of my range but luckily I think falsetto seemed to work well for this song, and contrast nicely with the super tight guitars! I'm still not a great singer though, so at least leave some constructive feedback if you choose to leave a harsh comment, and I hope you enjoy the cover nonetheless!
