A cover of Day Sixteen: Loser by Ayreon, from their album 'The Human Equation'.
This definitely stood out as one of my favourite tracks from the album straight away! It's a more theatrical one on the album, amazing vocals, catchy melodies and the song kicks off with a didgeridoo (which I unfortunately cannot replicate)!
I thought I could possibly do the song some justice with a more stripped back arrangement, and pay tribute to the late Mike Baker. As a guitarist, the main melody wasn't too tricky but I am a poor keyboard player which made it very tricky to play on melodica, but hopefully I did okay! I also decided to shorten the keyboard solo section and switch it to trade solos between guitar and melodica, just for a more interesting dynamic.
I also thought it would be cool to invite my good friend and fellow bandmate Robbie McGann to sing on this one, since I thought trading vocal parts would be fun and he is a far better singer than me!
I am by no means a great vocalist, but I still wanted to perform vocals on this one for practice, so if you do choose to leave a harsh comment or some criticism, at least tell me how I can improve, and I hope you still enjoy this cover!
