San Antonio, Texas - Buster (ID A811717) has been at @sanantonioacs for only nine days, and he is already at risk of euthanasia because the shelter is out of space. Nine days.
That's all the time this 2-year-old American Staffy has been given.
Buster arrived at the shelter carrying more than emotional baggage. Medical records show he is being treated for injuries to his front leg, including cuts, swelling, and scarring. Shelter veterinarians have started antibiotics and pain medication while trying to determine what caused his injuries.
Shelter staff describe a dog who greets people with a loose body, wagging tail, and a willingness to approach handlers. He is easy to leash and cooperative when taken outside.
Once out of his kennel, however, the stress becomes clear.
Buster appears frightened and overwhelmed by the shelter environment. Evaluators observed him freezing, lowering his tail, pinning his ears back, and seeking distance from the activity around him. Rather than reacting aggressively, Buster chose to retreat to a quiet corner where he could rest and decompress.
Even while struggling with fear and uncertainty, Buster appropriately interacted with both male and female dogs.
This is a dog who is trying to survive.
Yet Buster continues to greet people and show signs that he wants to trust.
What he needs now is time. Unfortunately, time is the one thing he doesn't have.
Buster urgently needs a rescue, foster, or adopter willing to give him the chance he deserves. His story does not have to end in a shelter kennel after only nine days.
