Unicorn Unity Gaming Interface - Hackathon during IEEE SMC 2025

How quickly can developers build a real-time Brain-Computer Interface game? During the BR41N.IO Hackathon, participants learned how to create interactive EEG-controlled applications in Unity using the Unicorn Hybrid Black EEG headset, the Unicorn Suite, and the Unicorn Unity SDK. The workshop demonstrated how developers can move from EEG acquisition to working BCI applications without implementing their own signal processing, feature extraction, or classification pipelines from scratch.

The Unicorn Hybrid Black provides real-time EEG acquisition, active hybrid electrodes, raw EEG data access, Bluetooth connectivity, and a complete software ecosystem for Brain-Computer Interface development. Through the Unicorn Suite, developers gain access to ready-to-use tools for ERP, P300, Visual Evoked Potentials (VEP), signal processing, classification, Lab Streaming Layer (LSL), Python integration, C/C++ APIs, .NET APIs, Simulink workflows, and Unity development. This allows teams to focus on application design, gameplay, and user experience rather than low-level EEG infrastructure.

The workshop introduced participants to Visual Evoked Potential (VEP) Brain-Computer Interfaces, one of the most widely used paradigms for high-speed BCI control. Using the Unicorn Unity SDK, developers were able to create EEG-controlled games, interactive environments, virtual reality experiences, and real-time human-computer interaction systems. The framework supports training, calibration, classification, and application deployment directly inside Unity, significantly reducing development time for Brain-Computer Interface projects.

A key takeaway from the workshop is that teams can rapidly build working Brain-Computer Interface applications because the Unicorn ecosystem already provides validated EEG acquisition, signal processing, feature extraction, and classification tools. Instead of spending weeks developing EEG software infrastructure, developers can immediately focus on creating games, assistive technologies, neurofeedback applications, robotics systems, cognitive neuroscience experiments, and neurotechnology products.

This workshop highlights why the Unicorn Hybrid Black is widely used for Brain-Computer Interface research, EEG game development, ERP research, VEP applications, cognitive neuroscience, real-time EEG processing, Unity development, Python-based neurotechnology projects, and rapid prototyping. The combination of high-quality EEG acquisition, real-time streaming, open APIs, Unity integration, and ready-to-use BCI tools enables researchers, students, startups, and developers to transform ideas into working applications in hours rather than months.

BR41N.IO Hackathon projects repeatedly demonstrate that teams can build Brain-Computer Interfaces, EEG-controlled games, neurofeedback systems, machine learning applications, virtual reality experiences, robotics projects, and assistive technologies within just 24 hours using the Unicorn Hybrid Black platform.
