How can brain activity be used to control physical devices in the real world? This BR41N.IO Hackathon project demonstrates a complete Brain-Computer Interface (BCI) system that allows users to control a LEGO robot using only their visual attention and brain signals acquired with the Unicorn Hybrid Black EEG headset.

Developed within just 24 hours, the system combines real-time EEG acquisition, SSVEP-based Brain-Computer Interface technology, Unity visual stimulation, wireless communication, and robotics control. The team focused on visual targets presented through LED matrices, while the Unicorn Hybrid Black recorded the resulting brain activity. The EEG signals were processed in real time to identify the user's intention and translate it into movement commands for the robot.

The project created a competitive two-player environment where each participant attempted to control the robot through focused visual attention. EEG data acquired from the Unicorn Hybrid Black was analyzed in real time, transmitted through a custom software pipeline, and used to drive the LEGO robot toward the finish line. The result is a complete closed-loop Brain-Computer Interface system connecting the human brain directly to a physical robotic device.

This project highlights one of the key advantages of the Unicorn Hybrid Black: developers can rapidly build real-world Brain-Computer Interface applications without spending days on hardware integration, signal acquisition, artifact correction, or low-level EEG infrastructure. The platform provides reliable EEG acquisition, real-time data access, development APIs, and a complete software ecosystem that enables teams to focus on innovation rather than setup and troubleshooting.

Applications demonstrated in this project include Brain-Computer Interfaces, SSVEP research, neurotechnology development, robotics control, assistive technology, real-time EEG processing, and human-machine interaction. The project shows how students, researchers, developers, and startups can transform an idea into a functioning BCI prototype within a single hackathon.

BR41N.IO projects like this demonstrate why the Unicorn Hybrid Black is widely used for Brain-Computer Interface development, neurotechnology education, rapid prototyping, and applied neuroscience research. From robotics and gaming to neurorehabilitation and assistive technologies, teams repeatedly build working applications within 24 hours, proving that the Unicorn Hybrid Black is ready for real-world BCI development from day one.
