BRETHREN VOICES FEATURES THE MUSIC OF BILL JOLLIFF
Brethren Voices has featured the music of Bill Jolliff numerous times. Since our last program with him, he has retired as a Professor of American Literature, Poetry Writing, Literary Criticism, and First Year Composition at George Fox University, Newberg, Oregon.
Bill's talents extend to song writing and over the years we have learned to know Bill through his songs which address the issues of the day.
He grew up in Magnetic Springs, Ohio and Bill says, "the springs are actually, magnetic." With the mentorship of his grandmother, he started playing guitar and banjo at the age of 15. His interest in American Literature began in high school and he especially liked the works of Robert Frost and John Steinbeck.
Studying English, he earned a PHD at Ohio State University and he began his teaching career at Messiah College, near Harrisburg, PA. Three decades later he retired from George Fox University. His extensive background in literature assisted his song writing, providing a foundation for many of his songs. In this edition of “Brethren Voices,” Bill shared some of his song writing secrets with participants of a Brethren Song and Story Fest.
