Natural disasters take a great toll on the country and Brethren Disaster Ministries has been involved in assisting the survivors of these disasters for many years. The Brethren do this very well.
"Brethren Voices," takes a look at one of the largest auctions. It's the work of thousands of volunteers of the Atlantic Northeast and the Southern PA District of the Church of the Brethren to raise funds for disaster relief. All types of things are donated and auctioned off with the proceeds contributed to assist Brethren Disaster Ministries.
Sixty heifers were auctioned as well as beautiful quilts, antique cars, household furnishings, tools and equipment. Those attending this 37th Annual Brethren Disaster Relief Auction are treated to the tasty food prepared for this event. A prize red and white heifer is auctioned and sells for $3,400. It's a delightful story.
As an alternative Christmas gift idea, consider a gift to Brethren Disaster Ministries to assist those who have been devastated by disasters. The Brethren are beginning rebuilding efforts for families who have not received assistance from other organizations.
