BREAKING DREAMS

This song was the final song recorded for my first album released in 2017, Nowhere To Hide.
This is one of my personal favourites. For me, the song represents a turning point in my music. A change in my style of songwriting as well as a change in my recording process. Production wise it has more in common with how the songs on my second album, Hiding In The Spotlight were recorded and produced.
All fully recorded, mixed and mastered using Garageband on MacOS.
The song is about deep regret. Upsetting the person you love and realising that you've made a big mistake. While the song wouldn't be out of place on my Hiding in the Spotlight album, I made the decision to keep it as part of the first album - and more deliberately it follows on from the song, Special K.
In Special K, the story is all about a girl who has been hurt in a relationship. Breaking Dreams is written about the same situation, but from the perspective of the guy who hurt her.
Recording-wise I used Finn and the Coffee Shop Cajon kit for the verses with Levi jumping into the choruses on the Smash Kit. This was about the time that GB was updated to allow you to use more than one kit on a track.
Bass guitar is my cheap Chinese made Mannix Bass and the electric guitar is my Epiphone SG400 which is double tracked in the chorus. This was also the last song I used my SG guitar on as I have used my Fender Telecaster on every song since.
There's a double tracked Tremelo guitar in the chorus as well.
A double tracked acoustic guitar is played throughout and all guitars are panned to various degrees left and right.
Out of the 29 tracks used on this song, 13 of them are vocal tracks - predominantly backing vocals. I was quite pleased with how these turned out as they ended up sounding like a group of female backing singers.
All tracks used the stock standard plugins found in GB. Mainly EQ and some compression.

Chorus: A - D - F sharp minor - E
