Some people have been puzzled at the apparent reluctance or dismissive comments by Prime Minister Carney to seek more meetings with President Trump and resolve the various trade and border issues affecting our relationship. But perhaps beyond the apparent border trade battle, there is something else going on, like climate wars. Long before Prime Minister Carney entered politics, the Republican US House Judiciary Committee began investigating what they have named the "climate cartel." The USA has anti-trust legislation to protect corporations and shareholders from outside groups 'ganging up' to force a company to act in a certain way. The interim report of the committee is titled: "CLIMATE CONTROL: EXPOSING THE DECARBONIZATION COLLUSION IN ENVIRONMENTAL, SOCIAL, AND GOVERNANCE (ESG) INVESTING." Several of the climate action groups that Mark Carney put together some years ago, like the Glasgow Alliance for Net Zero (GFANZ), Net Zero Banking Alliance (NZBA), and other groups like Climate Action 100+ who are shareholder influencers, are named in the report. GFANZ and NZBA began dismantiling or restructuring after the interim report came out. Many people claimed this was due to Trump's election, but the investigation into the "climate cartel" began long before that. Anti-trust violation penalties are extremely harsh financially, and there is also a risk of a criminal charge and jail time, depending on the situation (none of which has been proven at this time). So, it turns out that President Trump is basically destroying much of the climate work that Mark Carney has done over the past decade. Likewise, it is curious that Canada has pivoted to EVs and China when our auto sector is closely aligned with the USA, which is now turning away from EVs. China's trade with the USA has dropped dramatically; many of the major funds are invested in 'green' tech, most of which is made in China. The problem is that current policies are offering incentives to 'green-tech' or 'clean-tech' industries and investors in Canada, for which there are no certain markets and Canada is not a large enough market alone to support these projects. As with the huge EV battery plant subsidies that did not result in one plant being built, do these incentives offered mean that the Climate Cult with 'drink Canada dry?'
