In Oman, tradition lives in the hands of its artisans. Every dagger crafted here—known as the khanjar—is unique, carefully tailored with motifs chosen by its future owner. For centuries, daggers have been a proud symbol of Arab identity, but their shape and style vary from one region to another. In Yemen, they are long and straight; in Saudi Arabia, bold and deeply curved; in Syria, more delicate. The Omani dagger, however, is instantly recognizable—an emblem of pride and heritage that no other can rival.
For women, tradition is expressed differently. They carry history on their skin through intricate henna tattoos, painted for weddings, celebrations, and rites of passage. Some designs stretch up the arms of brides, while others are delicate patterns on the hands of young girls. Beyond the designs, wearing the traditional robe—the suri—is just as important. These practices are passed down from generation to generation, ensuring that both men and women uphold their cultural identity, each in their own way.
