In the high plateaus of Vietnam, the Mnong people have preserved a rare and demanding tradition: the capture and taming of wild elephants.
At 78, Makoun is too old to hunt, but he remains one of the last masters who knows the rituals, prayers, and secrets that bind humans to elephants. Before each expedition, hunters ask the spirits of the forest, mountains, water, and elephants to guide and protect them.
Equipped with sacred leather lassos and accompanied by trained elephants, Issan and his brothers leave the village for weeks, crossing rivers and forests toward the Cambodian border. There, in one of the last territories where wild herds still gather, they become hunters once again.
But this is more than a hunt. For the Mnong, elephants are not simply animals. They belong to a shared world of ancestry, sacrifice, ritual, and memory.
This documentary follows a forest people trying to preserve one of their most ancient bonds.
