This footage was filmed just before Gracie the sloth bear was rescued. If you look closely, you can see the rope in her nose. For 10 long years, she was forced to “dance” for entertainment, and that rope was used to pull her, control her and force her to perform through fear and pain.
For the past week, we’ve been posting about Gracie and trying to raise the funds she urgently needs for her care. So far, $29,910 has been raised across all platforms, which is incredible, and we’re so grateful to everyone who has shared, donated or helped spread the word.
This target was calculated using the average lifespan of a sloth bear, and the cost of caring for Gracie each year at the sanctuary with our partners, Wildlife SOS. It reflects the reality that after a decade of cruelty, Gracie will need long-term, specialist care for the rest of her life.
