Because as hard as this work can be, it’s incredibly rewarding to watch these animals go from strength to strength.
This little one is being moved into our nursery enclosure in Costa Rica, a really important step in the earliest stages of rehabilitation.
The baby howler monkeys in our care are orphaned, so the nursery gives them a safe space where they can settle, recover, and slowly start socializing with other young monkeys. That time together is such an important part of their journey, helping them build confidence, learn from one another, and develop the behaviours they’ll need as they grow.
So many of these babies come to us after facing the devastating threats howler monkeys live with every day, including electrocution, dog attacks, and vehicle collisions. Giving them safety, comfort, and the chance to grow alongside others can make all the difference.
