Meet Jenny...

Filmed in June 2025, this joyful moment shows Jenny enjoying one of the pools in her special bear cub enclosure, where she was given the safety, care and comfort she needed after such a heartbreaking start in life.

When Jenny was found, she was just a five-month-old cub, clinging desperately to her injured mother. Sadly, her mother did not survive, leaving Jenny orphaned and deeply traumatised. She arrived distressed and unwell, but in the care of our partners, Wildlife SOS, she began her slow journey back to strength.

Pools like this are a very important part of enrichment for young bears, helping to keep them mentally stimulated, active and engaged as they grow, heal and learn how to simply be a bear again.

And as this video shows, Jenny was more than ready to make the most of it.

When a joint team from the BKSDA West Kalimantan and our partners YIARI reached him, they found him living in heartbreaking conditions. The miner who kept him had built a crude cage barely big enough for Randy to turn around. He was being fed scraps of banana and bread, his small body weak and undernourished. Beneath his soft fur, our partners discovered signs of an old fracture - a healed break on his leg, proof that Randy had suffered a serious traumatic incident before his rescue. Randy’s story is the tragic result of human activity pushing deeper into orangutan habitat. As forests are destroyed and land is cleared for illegal mining, orangutans lose their homes - and their safety. When a baby is found alone, it almost always means his mother is gone, caught in the crossfire of habitat loss and human conflict. Randy is now at YIARIs rehabilitation center, but this is only the very beginning for him. His recovery will be long, difficult, and incredibly costly. He’s receiving the basic medical care and nutrition he was denied for so long but learning how to be an orangutan again will take years of patient, specialized support.
