Almost two decades on the frontline of orangutan conservation, and our partners, YIARI, are still doing whatever it takes to protect orangutans and their critical rainforest habitat.
This archival footage takes us back to 2008, during a rescue conducted by BKSDA West Kalimantan alongside YIARI. In the pouring rain, one rescuer, Argitoe, carries the orangutan to safety on his back while the team follows behind, shielding the ape from the downpour and carrying an IV drip through the devastated rainforest.
But rescue is only the beginning. YIARI also work closely with local communities, helping to build understanding, reduce conflict, and create long-term protection for orangutans and the forests they depend on.
They also work hand in hand with government authorities, including BKSDA West Kalimantan, to help ensure rescue, rehabilitation and release efforts run as smoothly and safely as possible.
