I had a viewer reach out to me asking about this pottery tool she had seen in a video on the Orchard Valley Ceramics Arts Guild channel. The video, titled "Throwing Big with George Dymesich" shows how to throw and open big pots using a tool made from a baseball bat.

George is clearly a very experienced and skilled potter, and made the use of this tool look easy. I gave it a try and didn't have quite the success he shows in his demonstration. I suspect my clay is a little stiffer than his was, but more likely it comes down to practice. Few tools are easy the first time.
