The weekend was finally here where we could celebrate Poppy joining the Cowell Club - Running her 100th different parkrun! Poppy's parkrunning journey goes back to the day she printed her parkrun barcode on her 4th birthday. Her first 10 parkruns included 3 in the UK, 4 in Australia, 2 in New Zealand and her 10th run was in Singapore. I guess, being my daughter, Poppy was always going to have a pretty cool parkrun journey as I love being a parkrun tourist and travelling to new places and meeting new parkrun communities. I think what has surprised me is just how much Poppy loves it too.
I'd arranged for Poppy's parkrun BFF to meet us, and we'd chosen Barnsley parkrun as it was halfway between her house and our house. I've run Barnsley parkrun once before, 10 years ago, while pregnant with Poppy and profiled it on the parkrun show podcast. I had a listen back to hear how I'd found the course and if there was anything of note. But when I listened back, I heard that the reason that we'd gone there was to celebrate Ben's 20th different parkrun, which made him an ubertourist. I couldn't believe that we were in Locke Park to celebrate Ben's parkrunning tourist achievement and we were returning 10 years later to celebrate our daughter's parkrunning tourist achievement. I absolutely loved the symbolism (and if you've listened to the recent With Me Now podcast episode when I spoke about this day then you may have heard me tearing up just talking about it) and it made the day extra special.
Huge thanks to everyone who made the day extra special for Poppy. She had the best day celebrating and the team at Barnsley parkrun gave Poppy a special 100 sash to wear which she loved, as well as a special mention in the run brief! What a day?! I'm so proud of my small, happy, parkrunner.
