Barnard 68 is an ‘Absorption Nebula’ located at about 500 light-years from Earth in the constellation of Ophiuchus. An ‘Absorption Nebula’ also known as ‘Dark Nebula’ is a type of ‘Interstellar Cloud’ that is so dense that it absorbs the visible wavelengths of light from objects around it and thus appears to be black.

‘Interstellar Clouds’, also called ‘Molecular Clouds’, are some of the coldest (can have temperatures upto -263 °C) and most isolated places in the universe where all of the light being emitted from the stars inside of them is being blocked from our view by high concentrations of dust and molecular gas, which absorbs most of the light that can be seen at optical wavelengths.
