We have now tried out several versions of this verticle ball-in-a-frame feeder (originally inspired by the team at Odense Zoo), and have tested them with multiple species across different animal collections. The team at Jimmy's Farm & Wildlife Park had the design on their wish list from us, and so when the perfect team build group came along it was a chance to build lots of these feeders and test them with some new species.
Food is put into the boomer ball via a single hole. As the ball in knocked up and down by the animal, the food falls into the tray below making it accessible to eat. It is a simple way to prolong foraging and feeding. The top of the device has a hinged lid so that the ball can easily be removed, cleaned and refilled.
Well done to the team for creating all of these feeders, we can't wait to see what other species the team at Jimmys Farm test them with.
