During the drought of 2016-17 the Western Cape was plagued by devastating veld fires. In early February 2017, the Hawekwa mountains were hit by its third fire. This time it burned all the way down Bain's Kloof, evacuating more than 70 farm workers. The pass was closed for several days while the fire consumed everything in its path. This footage was taken the day that the road was re-opened, revealing the terrible damage. The smoke from several fires still burning can still be seen.
