Mookodi is a Sesotho word, meaning "rainbow", an apt name for a Spectrograph for the Lesedi telescope (meaning "light", also in Sesotho).
Just before the Omicron variant of Carona reached it peak, a small team of technicians, engineers, astronomers and students headed up to Sutherland to install an instrument on the the second port of the Lesedi telescope, called Mookodi. This video, narrated by the PI’s, or principal investigators, and the mechanical engineer, shows the whole installation process, from assembly to so-called “first light”.
