Then Dabney declares that "the great foundation for the subordination of children [is] in the mother's example." The Old Testament prophets rarely would pluck out their beards and their hair from themselves or others. But when the men married the wrong women they did. The purpose of marriage is to produce godly children and children strongly tend to imitate their mothers. If their mother obeys God who commands her to fear her husband and obey him as unto Christ the children will walk right after her example.
