Peter Helland continues in the last of his series on the American Revolution. He stresses that the practical ideological battle between the Loyalists and the Patriots centered on the elimination of the right of the firstborn son. England practised primogeniture by giving the firstborn son most all of what the father had. The Puritans went back to the Bible and they required the biblical “double portion” for the firstborn son. But the crazy Patriots removed socially and legally any notion that the firstborn son held any special favor within the family. So as the great Henry Brownson pointed out in a speech at Notre Dame University in 1897: in America the family is erased when the Father or husband dies. Without a well organized system of succession when the father dies the family has little chance of survival. So America is gutted and corrupted from within because families cease soon after the fathers die. We destroyed the British monarchical system which directly guided the family and replaced it with a system that organized around an ideology that said all authority comes from the consent of the governed. That ideology lays a foundation at war with the law of God and is destined for collapse like Jesus in the Sermon on the Mount prophesied.
