The Azerbaijan National Carpet Museum in Baku is a cultural landmark dedicated to preserving the ancient and intricate art of Azerbaijani carpet weaving—a masterpiece of intangible heritage recognized by UNESCO. Established in 1967, it holds the distinction of being the first museum in the world devoted exclusively to carpets. Its modern home, a spectacular building opened in 2014, is an architectural marvel designed to resemble a fully rolled carpet. Inside this unique structure, the museum houses the world’s largest collection of Azerbaijani carpets, with over 10,000 items that trace the evolution of weaving from the simplest flat-woven mats to intricate piled masterpieces. The collection is organized by regional weaving schools and includes invaluable 17th-century artifacts, such as fragments of the Tabriz "Ovchulug" hunting carpet and the rare Karabakh "Dragon" (Ajdahali) carpet, along with other traditional applied arts like ceramics, jewelry, and metalwork.
