Nestled in the historic heart of Iga, Mie Prefecture, Nipponia Hotel Igaueno Castle Town offers a unique blend of traditional Japanese hospitality and rich cultural heritage. This charming hotel is set within the beautifully preserved castle town of Iga-Ueno, once a bustling samurai district centered around Iga Ueno Castle, built in the late 16th century.
Housing the hotel’s front desk, restaurant, and guestrooms, the KANMURI building was an herbal-medicine wholesaler in the Edo period (1603–1867). It later served as a ryokan (traditional Japanese inn) and a place of learning. Now a Registered National Cultural Asset, it delights guests with its accommodations featuring elaborate traditional furnishings and, in some cases, even tea rooms.
Famous for its deep ninja history and scenic streets lined with Edo-period architecture, the Iga region provides a captivating glimpse into Japan’s feudal past. Staying here means immersing yourself in the atmosphere of samurai culture, with easy access to museums, gardens, and local crafts that celebrate the legendary Iga Ninja legacy.
